Where to begin? So much has happened this year and it's still not over. Well, my wedding season has wrapped up but my personal portrait work is far from over. 2009 was hard work and amazing. I traveled twice internationally for weddings and couldn't have been more thankful. Here is my list of what I learned and will always be learning.

Patience

Always stay humble

Be yourself and never copy anyone

Seek growth in your art and perspective

Inspiration comes from so many outside elements

Be content and keep it simple

This year I really felt like I started settling into my skin. I feel like I have better direction for what I am doing and going after. This changes from time to time as it should. My gifts lie on the creating side and less on the business side so I'm eager to better develop these skills in 2010.

Not being boxed in and categorized as a specific type of photographer is one direction you can take as an artist. Or you can stick to one genre as photographer. Both are just fine, it just depends on the person and their style. This year I am field testing this and branching out into more commercial and advertising work. My passion will always stay within portrait photography that conveys emotion and a story but I love the challenge and different ideas that commercial work presents.

Over the next year I will be working on a larger personal portrait project that I am very excited about and will have more details as the next year unfolds.
